/// Overview

Cinco Tonos (Five Tones) is an interactive storytelling ecosystem engineered to reconnect the community of Támesis with its fragmented artistic heritage. By intertwining local expressions—ranging from oral traditions and music to street art and literature—the project frames the town’s ancient rock art within a modern, participatory context. Users follow the narrative journey of a faceless entity, engaging with cyclical, non-linear installations that seamlessly merge physical traditions with immersive digital layers.

About

Cinco Tonos (Five Tones) is an interactive storytelling ecosystem engineered to reconnect the community of Támesis with its fragmented artistic heritage. By intertwining local expressions—ranging from oral traditions and music to street art and literature—the project frames the town’s ancient rock art within a modern, participatory context. Users follow the narrative journey of a faceless entity, engaging with cyclical, non-linear installations that seamlessly merge physical traditions with immersive digital layers.

Diagnostic

The core conceptual hurdle was addressing the cultural disconnect within Támesis, where ancient petroglyphs had lost their ancestral significance and contemporary art forms lacked a unified platform. Technically, the challenge lay in architecting a cohesive transmedia pipeline capable of bridging physical touchpoints—like branching-narrative books—with high-fidelity digital layers, such as augmented reality murals and VR environments, without alienating the local demographic.

The foundation

Serving as the physical anchor for the entire transmedia ecosystem, we designed a tactile, diorama-style map. This tool functions as the primary onboarding device, orienting users and establishing the non-linear structure of the exhibition. As users independently navigate between the different artistic stations at their own pace, they collect physical pieces. Upon completing the circuit, these fragments seamlessly combine into a final collectible figure—a tangible representation of the user's journey and a lasting souvenir of the experience.

Collaborative Oral Tradition Archive (Audio Production)

To preserve the intangible heritage and historical memory of the region, we structured a serialized, participatory podcast format. Rather than a passive listening experience, the project functions as a collaborative audio archive that compiles captivating, hyper-local stories narrated directly by the Támesis community. Each episode focuses on specific cultural themes, encouraging active vocal participation and ensuring the town's oral traditions are digitally preserved and broadcasted back to the public.

Branching Narrative Interactive Book (Print & Storytelling)

This component translates the concept of user agency into a physical, analog medium. The interactive book introduces the character of David and his quest to discover the literary mask. Functioning as a non-linear narrative engine, the storyline bifurcates into distinct paths, allowing readers to fundamentally alter the protagonist's journey through their choices. The system is structurally designed to be continuously expanded by future readers, creating an evolving, open-source literary tree that grows alongside the community.

Virtual Reality Petroglyph Forge (VR Experience)

To recontextualize the ancestral rock art of Támesis, we developed a fully immersive virtual reality environment. Users are transported through a metaphorical timeline—spanning the past, present, and future—to understand the historical weight and original context of the town's petroglyphs. The experience then transitions into an active digital forge where participants design their own customized petroglyphs, assigning them unique contemporary meanings. The final asset is automatically processed and emailed to the user as a permanent digital artifact.
