For the investigative documentary Betrayal of Trust: Australia’s Childcare Crisis, we developed a series of emotionally charged graphic sequences that visualize survivor and family testimonies, using fractured porcelain-like child figures to represent broken trust and lasting psychological damage.

/// The Challenge

/// The Challenge

Translating deeply sensitive personal accounts of abuse and institutional failure into respectful yet impactful visuals required a delicate balance. We needed a visual metaphor strong enough to convey psychological damage and broken innocence without literalism or sensationalism, while delivering cinematic quality under tight broadcast timelines and maintaining strict narrative alignment with the mothers' testimonies.

/// The Solution

/// The Solution

We designed the children as fragile, cracked porcelain sculptures their physical fractures and imperfect surfaces serving as direct metaphors for emotional and developmental harm. A rigorous look-development pipeline in Cinema 4D and Octane established extreme chiaroscuro lighting, using deep, oppressive shadows and sharp, revealing beams of light to evoke vulnerability, isolation, and the search for truth. Detailed character modeling, rigging, and subtle animation brought quiet emotional authenticity to the figures within carefully composed domestic environments.

The workflow combined character development, rigging, scene composition, animation, and look development inside Cinema 4D and Octane. Large emphasis was placed on material behavior, light contrast, volumetric atmosphere, and slow cinematic framing to reinforce the emotional tone of the sequences.
