For this segment, we were tasked with visually translating the complex, historical narrative of the Haida Sphinx. We focused on synthesizing the intricate, symbolic aesthetic of Haida totemic art into a motion-driven environment that bridged historical artifacts with modern broadcast design, maintaining narrative cohesion with the voiceover to guide the viewer through the object's mysterious origins.

The project started with illustration and visual development in Photoshop, followed by animation and timing design in After Effects. The animated sequences were then integrated into Cinema 4D using projection-based workflows and rendered in Octane with custom materials inspired by carved wood and traditional totemic aesthetics.

We developed a custom hybrid pipeline where hand-animated 2D sequences created in After Effects were converted into high-precision animated maps. These served dual purposes as projection textures and displacement drivers inside Cinema 4D, rendered with Octane. This approach allowed us to preserve the authentic texture and fluidity of Haida design language while enabling cinematic camera movement and depth that pure 2D could not achieve. The resulting aesthetic fused the raw power of traditional carving with contemporary documentary cinematic language.
